Safety at Sunset Meadows Park West

In response to a question raised by a local resident about possible contaminants in the incoming stormwater to the Sunset Meadows Park West (AKA Wilke West) basin, the Arlington Heights Park District and Village of Arlington Heights conducted a soil study within the basin.  Results of the study were presented to the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency.  Upon review, IEPA suggested that it was more appropriate for the Illinois Department of Public Health to evaluate the results of the study.  
 
On February 26,  2008 the Park District and Village received a letter from the Illinois Department of Public Health stating that at the present time, the recreational use of the Sunset Meadows (Wilke West) basin poses no apparent public health hazard.  Programmed recreational activities have been scheduled in the basin beginning spring 2008.
