When are swim lessons cancelled?

Swimming lessons are cancelled only in the event of lightening or thunder. Swim lessons are not cancelled due to rain or cold weather. There are days built in to each schedule to account for rain days. One rainy day per season.

If I choose not to attend a lesson when there is inclement weather can I get a refund for that day?

No, we do not refund because you chose not to attend even though the class was being held.

What do I do if my child graduates Swim School in the middle of a session?

Contact a registrar and request a refund for the remainder of the session or fill out a refund request form online. You'll find the form under Program Information.

What swim class should I put my child in?

The first question we need to ask is the child's age. The second question we need to ask is their swimming background.

Jr. Swim School is for 3-6 yr. olds. This class is for the toddler who...

• has taken Park District lessons
• is ready for deeper water (2 feet)
• can go under water

Swim School is for 5 yr. olds & up. This class is for children who...

• are ready to take a class without a parent
• have developed an attention span and can follow directions
• have taken Jr. Swim School lessons
• are ready for deeper water (2 feet)
• can go under water

Exceptions include:
Birthdays that are in June, July or August can register for classes where they will be that age requirement at that birthday. Registrations need to be done in person for these situations.

Can I get a refund if I will be missing lessons due to a vacation?

No. If they have not registered they can wait until they return from vacation and pay the prorated fee.

Do you offer private swim lessons?

Private swim lessons are designed to meet your child's special needs. They are for a child age 5 or older who needs one-on-one attention. Registration for private lessons is done in person and operate by using coupons. Each coupon will be good for one 30 minute Private Swim Lesson with a qualified lesson instructor. The fee is $18 ($27.50 NR) per 1/2 hour lesson. Once you stop in to purchase your coupons a staff person will contact you to confirm the specific time and day.
