House League

Overview

Many organized sports are available to children in Arlington Heights, but soccer has proven to be one of the most popular, attracting thousands of players of all ages each season to both the House League and the Travel Soccer programs.

Through the sponsorship of the Arlington Heights Park District the Arlington Aces Soccer Club, for many years, has provided the framework for children to learn this exciting and rewarding sport while developing individual skills and learning the importance of teamwork.

The recreational program, known as the House League, emphasizes fun and the learning the basics of soccer. While teams play games against other teams within the community, individual team standings are not kept, and sportsmanship, not winning, is stressed. This program has been highly successful and extremely popular, attracting thousands of children every season.

The Park District's soccer program is a recreational league for boys and girls in grades K-8. It stresses basic soccer skills, fun, and sportsmanship. The program is made up of six divisions:
Kindergarten
Division I - 1st Grade
Division II - 2nd grade
Division III - 3rd and 4th grades
Division IV - 5th and 6th grades
Division V - 7th and 8th grades.

Boys and girls play on separate teams (except in Kindergarten division), in separate leagues, and are placed on teams based out of the park where they register. Teams are formed by the availability of coaches and time of your registration.

For children who wish to place a greater emphasis on soccer in order to further develop skills in a more competitive environment that still stresses sportsmanship and fun, there is the Arlington Aces Travel Soccer Program. As the name suggests, teams in this program travel outside Arlington Heights to compete against teams from other soccer clubs. Practices are generally more frequent and longer than for players in House League and playing time in games is at the discretion of coaches.

Club Organization

The Arlington Aces Soccer Club is a program offered by the Arlington Heights Park District. The ultimate authority, like any other Park program, rests with the Park Board. The Board appoints a Soccer Advisory Committee to advise them on the soccer needs of the residents.

The Soccer Advisory Committee holds public meetings to consider policy matters and to address questions or problems of concern to parents.

The day-to-day operation of the soccer program, both House League and Travel is supervised by the Athletic Supervisor. You can call 847-506-7133 for more information.

Youth Sports Philosophy

The Park District recognizes that competition in and of itself is a part of life and if placed in the proper perspective something that an individual learns from. Competition as viewed by the Park District will encourage the participants to strive to be the best they can be. Winning and losing will be de-emphasized whenever possible, with the emphasis placed on participation, learning and enjoyment. In an effort to keep the recreational philosophy and to serve the greatest number of residents, athletic programs will be designed to encourage participation for the beginner and mid-level athlete. Although the Park District may offer traveling programs in certain sports in which the competition intensity increases, the overall focus should still remain on fun and learning. For certain participants their skill level and competitive needs may exceed the capabilities of the Park District program or resources and they may need to seek outside or private clubs and organizations.

Soccer Coaches Clinics

Introductory coaches clinics will be held before the start of the soccer season. For specific dates, times and locations, call the Athletic Supervisor at 847-506-7133.
