Travel Soccer OverviewParents Coach the Arlington Aces Travel Soccer Program providing players who wish to further develop soccer skills a more competitive environment while stressing sportsmanship and fun. As the name suggests, teams in this program travel outside Arlington Heights to compete against teams from other soccer clubs. Practices are generally more frequent and longer than for players in House League and playing time in games is at the discretion of coaches. Teams are coached by volunteer parents and train by approved club trainer. If you are interested in trying out for the Arlington Aces Travel Program try-outs for U9-U14 Boys/Girls and Girls U15-U18 are held in June. Dates, times and locations will be available in the beginning of May and posted on our Web site. Tryouts for boys U15-U18 (high school age) travel teams are held in the fall. Age GroupsThe Aces travel program has boys and girls teams from the "Under-9" level through adults. Depending on the availability of players and coaches, the Aces, at the discretion of the Soccer Advisory Committee, may field one or more teams in every age group (U9, U10, U11, etc.) The eligibility for a certain age group depends on the year in which the player was born and whether the birth date is on, before or after August 1. The specific information about eligibility is provided in notices at the time of tryouts. Players may also join an older age group team if his or her skill levels meet the criteria set by the coach. An older player, however, may not play on a younger team. Photo identification "player passes" are used by the soccer leagues to ensure players from all teams meet age requirements. The passes are checked by a referee before each game. Uniforms & FeesThe registration fee for Aces travel soccer is $220.00. In addition, each player must purchase a standard Aces travel team uniform, consisting of home and away jerseys, shorts and socks. The cost of the uniform is about $100.00. There are also costs for proper soccer shoes and shin guards which must be worn for practices and games. There may also be some additional expenses during a season, such as tournament entry fees, which a coach usually explains at the time of team selection. New uniforms for Fall 2008/Spring 2009
Regular Season & TournamentsUnlike the House League, a player who is selected for a travel team is committing himself/herself for an entire year-fall and spring seasons. There are usually ten games in each season. Games are played on Saturday and/or Sunday plus some occasional games on evenings during the week. Away games during the regular season are generally played in the Chicago area, many in nearby north and northwest suburbs. There are, however, games played in communities farther away such as Orland Park and Rockford. The distance traveled depends on the league in which the team plays and the competitive level at which the team plays. It is also common for travel team coaches to enter their teams in one or more soccer tournaments during the year to give the players a wider range of experience. Many of the tournaments are held over holiday weekends. Some are in nearby suburbs and some are in other parts of Illinois or outside the state. |
Clinics, Camps & Indoor SoccerTravel soccer is competitive and players often wish to use opportunities in addition to practice sessions and games to improve his/her skills. During the winter, some teams compete in indoor soccer leagues. Coaches who intend to field a team for the indoor season will usually tell parents and players at the time of team selection. The indoor season, however, is optional and requires additional fees. It is not a requirement of participation in the Aces travel program. Parents and players also may wish to investigate the many soccer summer camps and clinics offered. In addition, some coaches organize team clinics. Reserving Soccer FieldsSoccer fields are reserved for Arlington Heights Park District programs. Contact the Athletic Supervisor for a soccer field Application or further information at 847-506-7133. Youth Soccer At Its BestThe Arlington Aces Soccer Club is known through the Chicago area and in many other areas of the Midwest as a well organized and highly competitive program. Its coaches are some of the finest in the area, with many years of experience and training. Many of the travel team coaches began coaching House League teams and then increased their knowledge of game and youth coaching techniques through various clinics and classes. Most travel team coaches have acquired United States Soccer Federation/Illinois Youth Soccer Association coaching licenses. Travel team coaches have a commitment to teaching their players the skills and tactics of soccer while providing them with the best opportunities to learn the sport in competition. Above all, travel team coaches work to instill in their players sportsmanship and an enjoyment of soccer. Youth Sports PhilosophyThe Park District recognizes that competition in and of itself is a part of life and if placed in the proper perspective something that an individual learns from. Competition as viewed by the Park District will encourage the participants to strive to be the best they can be. Winning and losing will be de-emphasized whenever possible, with the emphasis placed on participation, learning and enjoyment. In an effort to keep the recreational philosophy and to serve the greatest number of residents, athletic programs will be designed to encourage participation for the beginner and mid-level athlete. Although the Park District may offer traveling programs in certain sports in which the competition intensity increases, the overall focus should still remain on fun and learning. For certain participants their skill level and competitive needs may exceed the capabilities of the Park District program or resources and they may need to seek outside or private clubs and organizations. Club OrganizationThe Arlington Aces Soccer Club is a program offered by the Arlington Heights Park District. The ultimate authority, like any other Park program, rests with the Park Board. The Board appoints a Soccer Advisory Committee to advise them on the soccer needs of the residents. The Soccer Advisory Committee holds public meetings to consider policy matters and to address questions or problems of concern to parents. The day-to-day operation of the soccer program, both House League and Travel is supervised by the Athletic Supervisor. You can call 847-506-7133 for more information.

Academy ProgramThe Arlington Aces Academy Program is an additional component to the AHPD soccer program that is designed not only for players who possess the desire and skill to compete at the highest levels of league and tournament play, but for all players who seek a unified and consistent approach to total player development. Players will develop by learning skills and strategies at age appropriate levels and benefit from the teaching philosophy of experienced soccer professionals. Academy teams are formed at U8-U18 age groups and are coached and trained by Elite Soccer staff. There may be more than one Academy team in each age group. Practices occur twice per week with occasional three times per week training. In addition, the teams have a parent volunteer team manager who coordinates the administrative efforts. Elite Soccer staff coaches lead on-the-field responsibilities and work closely with the team manager on administrative duties. If you are interested in trying out for the Arlington Aces Academy Program try-outs for U9-U14 Boys/Girls and Girls U15-U19 are held in June.
