Annual Tree Lighting kicks-off Quasquicentenniel

November 23, 2011 03:10 PM
Arlington Heights has kicked off the holiday season in North School Park at the annual tree lighting ceremony since 1991. Arlington Heights will ring in the holiday spirit as they always have, but this year the tree lighting ceremony will also jump start the 2012 Quasquicentennial celebration.

80,000 lights will illuminate in order to celebrate the Village of Arlington Heights’ 125 years of incorporation. The first 1,000 people in attendance will receive free tea lights at the special Quasquicentenniel booth compliments of Mariano’s Fresh Market.

On November 25 at 4:45P.M North School Park (410 N. Arlington Heights Road) will be transformed into a winter wonderland where parents, children, neighbors and friends will be able to gather and participate in an ongoing celebration. The Hersey High School madrigal singers will be jingling all the way as they entertain the crowd with Holiday songs. Guests are invited to bring non-perishable food items to help “Fill the Sleigh All the Way” to benefit the Wheeling Township Food Pantry. Festive dances will be performed by the Park District Fusion and Synergy dance companies and special guests in attendance include Mayor Arlene J. Mulder, Village Trustees and Park Board Commissioners.

This event would not be complete without Santa’s magic touch. His elves have been frantically working throughout the week in order to build fabulous holiday displays, and installing the holiday tree that is the sparkling centerpiece. Families will be able to snap pictures with a fabulous 35ft. Blue Spruce tree serving as a backdrop as well as holiday favorites that include Frosty, Santa and his reindeer, Soldiers, and many more. Lasting memories will be made as the public enjoys the park’s transformation into a winter wonderland.

The Park District continues to make transformations of their own as they remain committed to their goals of sustainability and energy efficiency. LED lights continue to be used this year to brighten even more displays than last year. Every year the Arlington Heights Park District transitions more lights creating a “greener” holiday tradition.

The annual tree lighting ceremony will be different from any other. Not only will a holiday tradition continue to warm the hearts of many families, but those in attendance will be able to start off the Village’s 125 years of incorporation. Therefore, come out to North School Park on November 25 and be a part of historical tradition that is sure to illuminate the spirit of Arlington Heights throughout the holiday season.
