The Arlington Heights Park District and the Parks and Planning Department are keepers of the parks for future generations. We promote sound policies, procedures, and practices. We have an Environmental Policy and an Enviro Group task force of employees who promote our goal.
Staff across the Park District have formed an environmental team, "Enviro Group" to help promote and encourage sustainable practices as well. Their mission: "To help set a high standard of leadership and competency in the promotion and incorporation of sound environmental practices and lifestyles."
In April 2016 the group held an Electronics Recycling event for employees and their families and collected over 1,400 pounds of electronics! Instead of going to a landfill, Enviro donated the electronics to GoodWill Industries for re-use! In winter 2016, another successful campaign to collect usable footwear and non-perishible food items was rolled out for community-wide participation. Over 1,744 pairs of shoes were donated to Share Your Soles, an npo in Chicago and over 2,690 pounds of food went to local food pantries. More events are scheduled for 2017 so visit us on Facebook to find out more! www.facebook.com/ahpdfan

Clean Up A Park
A “Clean Up The Parks” event is an excellent way for individuals or organizations to get involved with their local park and do a good thing for the community at the same time! Gather family, friends, and neighbors, for a clean-up party! The Park District will supply bags, gloves, rakes and other materials as necessary. The Parks Service Center has a list of parks and activities that you or your group can do from cleaning up garbage, to weeding, to helping to spread wood chips!
To Register: Call Parks Service Center, at 847-577-3013 between 9 am and 3 pm weekdays.
