Annual Holiday Light display recognized for spreading Holiday Cheer

As leaves fall from the trees, it is hard to believe that winter and the Holiday season is quickly approaching. Don’t worry, Santa’s elves are ready as lights are untangled, toys are made, and decorations receive their touch ups. For the elves of the Arlington Heights Park District, the Holiday season is another opportunity to bring the Arlington Heights community together.

The annual Holiday Tree Lighting ceremony at North School Park has recently been recognized as one of Midwest Living’s magazines five great places to see holiday lights in the December 2012 issue. The Arlington Heights Park District takes its place among Brookfield Zoo’s Holiday Magic and the Chicago Transit Authority’s Holiday El Train. Midwest Living recognizes Arlington Heights Park District’s attention to detail in each figurine, and mentions that beloved displays vary every year.

The Holiday display, featuring over 80,000 tiny lights, officially opens at North School Park on the Friday after Thanksgiving. A giant decorated tree is also placed at the center of the fountain and illuminates brightly wrapped gifts and toys that surround its base. Families are welcome to attend and enjoy hot chocolate, festive caroling, and beautiful twinkling displays at the Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony on November 23rd at 4:45pm at North School Park. The holiday light display runs from November 23, 2012 through January 6, 2013.

The 2012/2013 Holiday Display will include:
• Large Garland Bear
• The sleigh
• An airplane
• Two soldiers
• The train
• Ice Skaters
• The Arches
• Dreidels
• A Large Wreath
