In January 2020, Arlington Heights Park District learned we were the recipient of an Open Space Land Acquisition and Development (OSLAD) grant to move forward with improvements to Recreation Park. We listened to public feedback via two open input meetings in 2019 followed by a survey in 2020, all which informed design plans. With the unforeseen circumstance of COVID-19, and after careful consideration, the Park District unanimously decided Oct. 27 to halt forward movement on this project and decline accepting grant monies at this time, and to instead focus on more immediate community needs. While we understand this is a disappointment, we recognize we are living through unprecedented times and have all been affected by the pandemic, and we need to make responsible use of our limited financial resources. We are continually assessing our master strategic plan and will determine when it is an appropriate time to reapply for the grant and revisit these project plans. In the meantime, we will be identifying and prioritizing other needs in the coming months and continue ongoing dialogue with our community about which projects matter most.
