It’s official! The name of the new dog park at Melas Park is Canine Commons.
Thank you to all who participated in our online naming contest. We received hundreds of submissions and asked residents to vote for their favorite out of three names. They were Bark-a-Lot; Scentral Park and Canine Commons. After tallying up the votes Canine Commons emerged as the winner.
The 1.82 acre dog park is a joint venture between Mt. Prospect and Arlington Heights park districts. It will include three areas, one for large dogs, one for small dogs and a rotating area for use during maintenance of the other two areas. Fencing will surround the entire area with a small roofed shelter planned near the entrance to the park.
Situated at Melas Park, 1500 W. Central Road, the dog park will feature signage with rules/regulations of park use, as well as benches, trash receptacles and waste receptacles with bag dispensers. The park is the first and only dog park in both Arlington Heights and Mt. Prospect, and will open in June 2014.
Annual memberships will be sold beginning in May. Details regarding memberships will be available soon.
