WHAT We are Collecting

We are collecting gently worn shoes for donation. Gently worn shoes are described as generally clean, shoe laced, and without holes or extreme wear and tear. We are collecting all sizes of shoes, but are in need of children’s shoes. All footwear will be donated to Share Your Soles.
We are collecting non-perishable foods and beverages as well as household items and hygiene products. All Food/Personal Items
will be donated to the Wheeling and Elk Grove Food Pantries.

Food for the Sole Questions

Questions & Answers

All sizes from baby to children to adult. Slippers, sandals, flip-flops, swim shoes, athletic cleats, gym shoes, dress shoes, boots… We’ll take it all!

Do You Want Shoe Boxes?

No, we do not want shoe boxes or the donations to be tied together or put into bags. Just drop them in the container. Thank You!

Where Do All These Footwear Donations Go?

They will be delivered to a non-profit organization called SHARE YOUR SOLES in Chicago. From there, the shoes will be paired up and sent to needy communities locally, nationally, and internationally. The recent flooding in Louisiana took away many people’s homes and possessions, so some of the shoes will help those flooding victims directly.

Will I receive tax write-off receipts when I donate shoes or food to "Food for the Sole"?

The Food For The Sole campaign run by the Arlington Heights Park District, which benefits two different donation centers (The Wheeling Food Pantry & Share Your Soles), is not legally able to provide tax refund receipts to donors.  To qualify for a tax-write off you will need to donate directly to those donation centers.
