PARK DISTRICT INVITES SWIMMERS TO TAKE A LAST LAP
A lot has happened at the corner of Ridge and Euclid Avenues since the Park Board of Commissioners broke ground at the Olympic Indoor Swim Center in August 2018. The new building will soon include a gymnasium with two full-sized basketball courts, a second-floor indoor walking track, a 30-by-50-foot wellness pool, a fitness area and multipurpose rooms. The new fitness area will include state-of-the-art equipment, featuring equipment from Precor and Tag Fitness, in an effort to provide a ‘one-stop’ fitness destination. An indoor walking track, and a separate space for stretching, group fitness classes, and personal training will round out the fitness center.
GET SET TO KEEP SWIMMING
Effective March 4, 2019, swimmers will have to do without an indoor pool while renovation and expansion work continues. A fair amount of work remains as much needed repairs and upgrades are made to the mechanical systems in the existing building. The $16.9 million project includes about $1 million in upgrades to the existing building, including replacing a pool filter system, replacing a boiler and installing a new dehumidification system.
While swimmers may be temporarily inconvenienced, Park District officials are confident residents will see the benefits to the nearly 50-year old facility when the building reopens in 2020.

Spring is in the air and after a long winter, nothing feels better than shedding our winter coats, watching as the snow melts, and seeing the first buds appear on the trees. It’s also a great time to purchase your SplashPass to enjoy our five outdoor pools this Summer. Anyone who buys a Splash Pass before May 1 will receive a free gift, while supplies last.
During the closure of our indoor pool, Arlington Heights residents will enjoy resident rates at the indoor pools of four partner agencies. Splash Passes are not valid for use at partner agencies. Residents must purchase swim passes directly from these agencies to receive resident pricing. Proof of Arlington Heights residency is required (Eg: Driver's License, School ID, Current Utility Bill). DURING MONTH OF FEBRUARY
No matter what their swim skill level, residents are invited to become part of a memorial mosaic mural. It’s a way to celebrate Olympics’ heritage and allow residents to show their love and appreciation for what the building has meant to them over the years.
The public is invited to stop by Olympic Indoor Swim Center at 660 N. Ridge Avenue from now through March 3rd to snap a digital photo and share a favorite photo on Instagram or Facebook. All snaps received during this time will become part of a mural expected to grace the walls of the new building in 2020. Others may share a picture of their favorite memory at Olympic over the years on Facebook or Instagram using #WeAreAHPDBold for a chance to win a limited edition commemorative cube. WEEKEND OF MARCH 2 – 3
A “last lap” weekend is being offered to allow swimmers to swim for free before the planned closure. The weekend also marks a major milestone for the Arlington Heights Park District’s newest recreation center, as it represents the final stretch of construction activities.
The expansive renovation remains on schedule to receive its first swimmers and fitness enthusiasts in early 2020.
Spring is also the perfect time to step out of your routine and explore something new. The Park District’s Spring 2019 Program Guide was recently released and there are many wonderful things planned this season for residents and their families.
