Park District’s Open Voting for Dog Park Name

The Arlington Heights Park District and the Mt. Prospect Park District announced today that the public is invited to vote for their favorite ‘destination’ themed dog park name. Officials at both park districts have been collecting dog park name suggestions since mid-January. Close to 200 names were submitted by residents throughout Mt. Prospect and Arlington Heights.

Starting tomorrow, Feb. 15 the public is invited to vote for their favorite out of three names on their park district’s websites. The online voting includes the top three entries and asks voters to rank them as their first, second and third choice. There is a limit of one vote per household. To participate, residents can visit www.ahpd.org or www.mppd.org through February 28. The name that receives the most votes will be the winner. Voting will close at midnight on February 28. The winning name will be revealed in early March.

"It’s been fun to see just how excited residents are about this dog park," said John Robinson, Superintendent of Recreation. "We think it’s great that people are taking such an active role in helping us come up with a name befitting of the new facility," said Robinson.

The joint dog park project will offer 1.82 acres of lush outdoor space for dogs to run and play while pet owners mingle with one another. Situated at Melas Park, 1500 W. Central Road, the dog park will feature signage with rules/regulations of park use, two separate areas to accommodate small and large dogs (25+ lbs). The space will also feature a canopy for shade as well as benches, trash receptacles and waste receptacles with bag dispensers. The park is the first and only dog park in both Arlington Heights and Mt. Prospect and will open in June.
