Details:
This man-made lake (the earth removed was transported to a landfill to form Nickol Knoll Golf Club) was created to ease flooding problems. The 1.84 mile walking path (measured from the building) is used year-round. Whether you venture into the natural area and cross two short bridges or bypass this and stay on the outer path, it is one continuous loop. Extensive renovations to the path, playgrounds, outdoor exercise area, fishing and boat piers were completed in 2018. The 50-acre detention lake allows boating and fishing (catch and release only- except gizzard shad and carp) but
no swimming. Fishing license is required for 16-65 year olds and can be purchased at any bait shop or online at
https://dnr.illinois.gov/. The lake is stocked every season with a variet y of fish. A wooden platform walk way with gazebo brings pedestrians to the fishing pier. Another gazebo is located on the northeast side of the path.
