ALBERT VOLZ
Albert was born in 1871 to Catharine and Christian Volz. He had a brother Arthur and a brother George. On October 30, 1894 Albert married Zelma M. Rexford. They had a daughter Vera and a son Rexford. By 1920 Albert was working in Foundry Manufacturing in Arlington Heights. Albert lived his whole life in Arlington Heights; he was the first charter member of the Arlington Heights Five Department in 1894.
He served as a village trustee from 1899 to 1905 and in 1907 he was elected mayor a position he held for two terms. He was president of the Northwest Township Republican Organization for many years and also served as the 1st Wheeling Township Republican committeeman. From 1917 to 1923, Mr. Volz was a Republican state representative from the Arlington Heights area.
He was elected first president of the Arlington Heights Historical Society in 1956. Albert and his brother George Peter bought the ruins of the Diamond Sewing Machine Company and changed the name to Peter and Volz. They manufactured sewing machine casting and expanded the operation in later years to include school desks and public seating for theatres. Albert lived to be 100 years old and died June 7, 1971.
