Ice Rinks and Sled Hills
The Arlington Heights Park District makes ice between December 15 and February 15 (weather permitting). After February 15, staff concentrates on sites that only require resurfacing. The Park District does not utilize refrigerant coils for establishing ice rinks. Making ice requires a prolonged period of time when both the daytime and evening temperatures remain below freezing with several inches of frost in the ground.
The Park District prohibits ice skating on any pond or lake as the constant flow of water does not allow them to freeze solid enough.
Rinks are designated for free skate or hockey. For the safety of all skaters, we ask that you please respect each other.

Sled hills will be inspected after all facilities and parking lots are cleared of snow. Sled hills will be open when adequate snow cover allows for safe sledding.
Sledding is only allowed in designated areas where sled hill rules signage is posted. Areas with signs prohibiting sledding are not scheduled for inspections.
