Inclement Weather

Class cancellations will be posted on our website or directly communicated with program participants.

Perry Weather System

The Arlington Heights Park District is replacing the existing Thorguard Lightning Detection System with a new Perry Weather system, which will provide lightning alerts at our golf facilities and several parks throughout the district.

The system operates from 7AM-9PM, April–November; when lightning is detected within a 10-mile radius, one 10-second blast will sound and an amber strobe will illuminate, signaling everyone to seek shelter.

Once conditions are safe, three short 5-second blasts will sound and the amber light will turn off, indicating it is safe to resume outdoor activities. Units are currently active at Arlington Lakes, Sunset Meadows, Melas, Nickol Knoll and Pioneer, with additional locations coming online soon.

Facility & School Weather Policies

If School District 25 cancels school or adjusts their learning format to remote learning due to inclement weather, recreation programs will be cancelled until 1PM. Decisions on classes held after 1PM will be made by 12PM and decisions on classes held after 6PM will be made by 4PM.

Please note, Park District Preschool will not be in session if School District 25 does not attend in-person.
