The Arlington Heights Historical Museum is proud to announce multiple honors from the Illinois Association of Museums (IAM), recognizing excellence in exhibits, partnerships and staff contributions.
The Museum received an Award of Excellence for Exhibits for People, Parks, and Progress: 100 Years of AHPD. This top honor celebrates projects that demonstrate outstanding quality, creativity, and effective use of resources while meeting the highest professional standards. During the awards ceremony, judges specifically praised the exhibit’s engaging storytelling and the strong collaboration between museum staff and the Arlington Heights Park District team.
In addition, the Jimmy Garoppolo Museum Gift Shop Case earned an Award of Merit for Community Partnerships. This recognition highlights meaningful partnerships that make a significant impact. The display was made possible through collaboration with the Garoppolo family, bringing a unique and personal piece of local history to museum visitors.
The museum also proudly celebrates Rich Lisy, who was honored with the Unsung Hero Award. Presented annually to one individual, this award recognizes a team member who may not serve in a traditional museum role but is essential to daily operations. Rich’s behind-the-scenes contributions, dedication and willingness to go above and beyond play a vital role in keeping the museum running smoothly and enhancing the visitor experience.
“I’m grateful to the IAM awards committee for this recognition,” said Museum Curator Stephanie Lee. “Receiving this honor from our peers is especially meaningful. The People, Parks, and Progress exhibit was truly a team effort—bringing together museum staff, Park District departments and even contributions from the community to create something special.”
The Arlington Heights Historical Museum continues to provide engaging exhibits and meaningful experiences that connect residents and visitors to the stories that shape the community.
