Canine Commons

Canine Commons is open with the following guidelines:

  • If you or your dog are feeling sick, do not enter the dog park.

  • Enclosures are limited to 10 owners at a time, and owners should maintain 6 feet of distance from each other. If the enclosures are full, please come back another time.

  • The small enclosure is reserved for dogs who weigh 25 pounds or less and is not available for additional distancing for large dogs.

  • Face coverings are recommended.

  • Do not pet other dogs.

  • Use hand sanitizer when entering and leaving the dog park.

  • Limit contact with high touch equipment like gates and benches.

  • During Phase Three of Restore Illinois, the dog park is open to current members only.

Canine Commons is a joint venture between the Arlington Heights and Mount Prospect Park Districts with 1.82 acres of lush outdoor space for dogs to run, play, and socialize unleashed while owners mingle. Situated at Melas Park, the dog park has three enclosures: one enclosure exclusively for dogs under 25 lbs. and two rotating enclosures for larger dogs. The park also features shade trees, picnic tables, and waste receptacles with bag dispensers.


Membership Requirements


Proof of Village of Arlington Heights dog license.

You may apply for or renew a dog license at Arlington Heights Village Hall, 33 South Arlington Heights Road. Click here for VAH dog license information.

Proof of current vaccines and exams. Dogs must be at least 4 months old.

  • Distemper
  • Hepatitis
  • Parvovirus
  • Leptospirosis
  • Rabies
  • Fecal Test

Annual Membership Fees

  • $50 for the first dog
  • $25 for each additional dog, up to three dogs total

How to purchase a Canine Commons membership?

Memberships are limited. Arlington Heights Park District residents should contact Cari Boyle. Please be aware that not all Village of Arlington Heights residents are also Park District residents. If you are uncertain of your Park District residency, please contact Cari Boyle.

If memberships are available, you will be sent registration materials and instructions. If memberships are not currently available, you will be added to a wait list and contacted as soon as one becomes available.

Mount Prospect Park District residents may purchase Canine Commons memberships at Friendship Park Conservatory, 395 W. Algonquin Rd, Des Plaines.
