PARK DISTRICT CLOSURE UPDATES RELATED TO COVID-19

Based upon Governor Pritzker’s announcement yesterday to extend his stay-at-home order through the end of April, we will be extending the closure of all Park District facilities through April 30.

LAKE ARLINGTON, SUNSET MEADOWS AND PARKS UPDATE
Effective April 2, 2020, to further support the Governor’s initiative to flatten the curve of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Park District has decided to fully close the Sunset Meadows and Lake Arlington Park properties and all park amenities, including the paths, on those properties. Additionally, all Park District playgrounds, basketball courts, tennis courts and hard play surfaces are closed until further notice. This is not a decision the District took lightly, as seeing people enjoy our parks and facilities is our passion. However, we are all in this together. The sooner everyone does their part to get through this pandemic, the sooner we can all get back to the things we love and enjoy. With the exception of the amenities previously listed all other neighborhood parks and open spaces remain open for walking, hiking, biking, and running as long as park users comply with social distancing requirements. Find a facility at: www.ahpd.org/facilities.

PROGRAM/MEMBERSHIP UPDATE
All programs, events and rentals previously scheduled in April will be suspended or cancelled.  Our first option is to give all customers a credit to their account. Credits on account can be used for future programs, events, rentals, or memberships at the park district.  If a refund is desired, please submit the request at www.ahpd.org, by searching “refund” to access the fillable form.  Facility memberships have been frozen and once a return date is determined we will communicate the activation plan.

SUMMER PROGRAM GUIDE AND SUMMER REGISTRATION UPDATES
The Park District has decided to forgo the printing of the Summer 2020 Program Guide which was scheduled to be delivered to homes via doorstep delivery on April 18 due to the uncertainties with the pandemic. Instead, residents can expect to receive a direct mailing to their mailboxes informing them when a digital program guide is available for viewing online at www.ahpd.org. This mailing should arrive in early May describing the registration time, date and process.

Summer 2020 registration will therefore change, accordingly, to May 19 for Residents and May 26 for Non-residents. Summer programming is currently scheduled to start June 1, but is subject to change. As we are operating during very fluid conditions, we will communicate any other registration and program changes as needed via our website, emails to participants, and social media channels.

The Park District will continue to monitor information from local, state and national authorities to determine next steps if we need to extend our closure beyond April 30.
